Digital Storytelling

I really enjoyed visiting the two sites I chose. The Center for Digital Storytelling is a really tastefully designed page with categories of story to select from; Identity, or Education, for example. The stories I watched were well made and had strong, thoughtful content. It was reassuring to see these on the web, which I associate more as a medium where a myriad of vapid organizations vie for our attention with empty bombast and over-stimulation. As discussed in 'Visual Storytelling', digital storytelling is a democratic way of publishing and disseminating ideas and offers a set of new art making tools to discover and master. I love children's books and have written and illustrated some, and it was very interesting to see stories presented in this way. Even though the tools are new it is important to remember that the work will only be as strong as the writing and initial idea; the horse has to come before the cart.

  1. Yes! I keep coming back to that too: that the work is only as good as the writing and the initial idea. These are new tools, but they are not a workaround to hard work and imagination and creativity. That has to drive our uses of these tools.

  2. i glad you enjoyed the readings. your right, however, it seems that the horse has become easier to get motivated with such new technology. it is very exciting to work with digital storytelling. even more, it is very exciting to see young learners working with such creative technology.
